Responsibilities of an Estate Personal Representative
Hi, I’m Oklahoma attorney Meg Prestidge and I want to continue this topic, the personal representative, and what is expected of you serving in that capacity. After you have opened your estate checking account, the next thing you’ll want to do is gather any liquid assets, I’m talking about money, that the decedent owned at the time of his or her death, and you will transfer those funds into your newly created estate checking account.
Managing Financial Obligations
You will also, in the meantime, be gathering information regarding any debts the decedent owned, like mortgages, car payments, and things of that nature, and you’ll want to make sure that you make those payments until the estate is closed.
Then, after you do all of that, you will want to make your inventory, and I suggest you make a running inventory as you’re gathering the assets and the debts.
